Luminaries: Women's Group

The Center for the Performing Arts Women’s Group, The Luminaries, meets every other month to learn about the many happenings on the Center’s campus.Tickets for the presentations are $15 and include a boxed lunch. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 317.843.3800.

September 26: Hamilton County and the Arts
Ever wonder how the arts affects our community? This session will focus on the recent study done by Hamilton County Tourism in partnership with Americans for the Arts on the economic effects of the performing arts in our county. Hamilton County Tourism President/CEO, Brenda Myers, will talk about the 2016 Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study of the economic impact of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and their audiences.

November 28: Carmel Symphony Orchestra
Would you like to learn more about the Center’s resident symphony orchestra? Then join us as we hear from the Carmel Symphony Orchestra’s President & CEO, Alan Davis. You’ll hear about the CSO’s schedule for the year, their new Music Director, Janna Hymes, and learn about what it’s like to perform with the CSO from Principal Flutist, Karen Sheely.

January 23: Backstage Tour of the Tarkington and Studio Theatres
Join Don Farrell, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Actors Theatre of Indiana and Holly Haas Education Programs Director of the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre for a tour of the Studio and Tarkington Theatres. Hear how the Center’s resident companies utilize the spaces that they work and perform in and about the programs that ATI and Civic produce each year.

March 27: Songbook 101

Ever wonder what exactly is the Great American Songbook? Well, join Lisa Lobdell, Archivist for the Great American Songbook Foundation as we delve deep into that subject. Find out what constitutes a song in this genre, learn about the musicians, lyricists, and composers that are part of this era. We will also explore the most recent Songbook Gallery exhibit, “The Unsinkable Meredith Willson,” which will feature the famous composer of The Unsinkable Molly Brown and The Music Man.

May 22: Drum Circle! 
Come participate and groove the morning away in a lively Drum Circle! Lisa Colleen from Bongo Boy Music, will lead the group in a drum circle and talk to the group about ‘Drumming for Wellness.’ Drum Circles are team-building activities that are a creative means to build camaraderie and communicate vision and mission in a group. Bongo Boy Music uses Drum Circle and Rhythm-Based Activities to promote listening, cooperation, improvisation, and communication in a whole new way! Drums will be provided.
