Chris Lewis
Executive Director

Chris Lewis joined the Great American Songbook Foundation in August 2011 as Director of the High School Vocal Academy and Competition, now known as the Songbook Academy®. Chris holds a Master’s Degree in Education and has worked as a history teacher and special education liaison for the New York City Department of Education. He is an accomplished musician with experience as a professional vocalist, choral director and voice teacher, and was a member of the vocal jazz octet, Pieces of 8.

Lisa Lobdell

Lisa Lobdell joined the Great American Songbook Foundation in May 2010 as an intern and now oversees the Songbook Archives and its collections. Lisa holds Masters degrees in Library Science and Public History from Indiana University-Indianapolis.

Cathy A. Burton

Director of Programs

Cathy Burton Joined the Songbook Foundation staff in January 2017. Cathy is thrilled to work at the Great American Songbook Foundation because, through programs, she will promote the standards that are part of the shared American memory.

Cathy’s degrees are in Art (Art History) and Cultural Anthropology. She has worked for four museums during her career as a director of education, first in Los Angeles, CA, and, since 1992, in Indianapolis. She is eager to build enjoyable and memorable activities, with the help of volunteers, for visitors to the GASF gallery. Her areas of expertise include designing and producing programs for diverse audiences: formal education audiences, pre-K through life-long learners; families with children; people with special needs; and the general public. Cathy will work with the selected high school students during the Songbook Academy. Cathy has created docent and guide programs and will be working with the GASF volunteers to expand gallery use.

Cathy has many interests, including volunteering, visual arts, and participation in a community singing group. She enjoys travel and the work of contemporary indigenous and non-indigenous visual and performing artists.

Christopher Brush

Program Coordinator

Christopher Brush joined the staff of the Great American Songbook Foundation in October 2014. An experienced educator, he taught high school choral music for seven years before moving into the non-profit sector. He serves as Director of Music at College Avenue UMC in Muncie, and maintains a select private voice studio in Carmel. Additionally, Chris works as a consultant and clinician with non-profits and high school choral programs throughout the Midwest. 

An active performer, Chris has appeared in major venues across America and around the globe. He has performed with artists including Stephanie J. Block, Terrence Mann, Lea Solanga, Kenny Rogers, Madonna, and Cee-Lo Green. Chris was previously a member of the professional choral groups Cantabile! and Indy Voice Works, and sings with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.

Chris holds a B.S. in Vocal/General Music Education and M.M. in Choral Conducting from Ball State University.
