Hundreds of young dancers compete in massive regional event

More than 600 young dancers from throughout the Midwest flocked to the Center for the Performing Arts campus over the weekend for a regional round of the world’s largest ballet competition.

The Youth America Grand Prix Indianapolis semifinal took place Thursday through Sunday at the Palladium, the Tarkington and the Studio Theater. Workshops, classes and competitions attracted male and female dancers ages 9-19, some with dreams of competing at the upcoming international finals in New York City. YAGP also awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year, among other services.

This is the third consecutive year the Center has hosted the event, which is expected to return for at least the next three years.

Award-winning Indianapolis Star photographer Kelly Wilkinson came to check out the action and posted this photo gallery.
